Ondoy slammed Bulacan and the rest of Luzon with flood last Saturday afternoon. It was so far, the worst flood that hit our town.
My Dad, brother, house help and my nephews had to run for their lives as the waters fill the house. The rain poured so hard that they actually felt a twitch of pain on their skin. It came so sudden according to my brother. They weren’t able to bring anything with them. Not even food or clothes. All of them are dripping wet with rain and mud. They ran to the town’s church where they sought refuge. My brother told me that he had to fight for a piece of bread just for the kids to have something to eat.
My brother-in-law was in a barrio not far from town. He was driving when the floods came to him. He had to get out of the car right away and climbed to a nearby wall. He took videos of the flood, you can only see the roof of his car. He said he was afraid that the wall might give in and he has no choice but to swim, he was praying for his dear life. My Dad said he received a text message from my brother in law, saying that he might drown if not rescued immediately. My Dad can’t do anything. A good samaritan helped my “kuya”, GOD bless him whoever he is.
My eldest sister was stranded in the expressway. She was to supposed to go on overtime but decided not to because the rains. She tried to go home but there was so much traffic in the North Luzon Expressway. She told me it took her 14 hours to reach home. She joined my Dad in the church.
My Dad’s house is a reck. All of his things were a goner, everything covered with mud. He didn’t even have another shirt or pants to wear the morning after, not even a pair of shoes.
My sister’s house was not spared too.
You can feel desperation from their voices. It was horrible. No one expected that this would happen.
I still thanked God that everyone in the family is safe. We are still lucky that we are still alive.
My heart also cries for the people who lost their loved ones. And the people that are still waiting for rescue, may God keep them safe.
